Health Benefits of Passion Fruit & Cognitive Function Test 13A

This fruit was not so well-known in my younger days growing up in Barbados; but it was a familiar commercial drink when I returned to Barbados in the seventies; It is a very popular drink today, but I wish it was not so full of sugar.

In the Caribbean we grow both the purple and the yellow fruit. I have grown both in my backyard along the wall fence, where the vine spreads nicely.

When my German daughter and her girlfriend came for a visit about 5 years ago, i was very much surprised they both were familiar with the fruit and consumed it by just slicing it in half and scooping up the soft seedy pulp raw; a habit I now practice myself; but sometimes the seedy pulp can be too tart.

The commercial drink is a favorite among west Indians; I wished it was available unsweetened so you can add a little honey to your satisfaction. There is no reason why you cannot make your own passion an fruit drink from the fruit.

It is reported that the Spanish missionaries in Brazil referred to the flowers as the flowers of the five wounds, because it illustrates the crucifixion, hence the name passion fruit. The fruit originated in South America. In an area stretching from Brazil to northern Argentina.

The passion fruit is now a popular commercial crop all over the world, India, Eastern Asia, New guinea Australia, South America, Israel, Venezuela, Hawai, South Africa, Israel,New Zealand, the Caribbean and the warmer states like Florida, California, San Jose, Sanfrancissco Bay area .
