Health Benefits Of Noni & Cognitive Function Test 11A

I have known the Noni plant from primary school-days, but not as a health food but rather as a nuisance fruit; the children all referred to the fruit as dog dumplings.

There were trees on the perimeter of the school grounds and the road o the entrance of the school, we were careful to avoid stepping on the soft smelly fruit; but I do not recall anyone who made reference to the fruit or tree in relation to a health food.

My awareness began as late as five years ago when I began researching plant based diets; i even planted a tree in my back yard which is now full of fruit; but I am yet to start formulating a recipe for its use. As someone on limited blood pressure medication, I am duly cautious.

Noni gained popularity as a miracle cure for all sort of ills, but one should not get carried but pay attention to its health benefits, with some caution.

Noni Juice was used for medical conditions for more than 2000 years in China, India and Polynesia. Many health experts across the globe are lauding its benefits in modern health care. The juice and fruit are mostly used; but the bark, leaves and root have also been used in Polynesia.

  1. Wow, I had no idea that even a Noni fruit plant existed! Let alone known as ‘dog dumpling’ fruit.
What country did you grow up in? I don’t think we have those in the UK.
That’s quite a lot of health benefits also, would you suggest anyone healthy uses Noni juice, or when you have a specific ailment?
    Would be fascinated to know!

  2. Thanks for visiting, I doubt you will find Noni plant in the UK, but you never know, with the advances in agricultural science. You will definitely find it in the Caribbean and I did mention other countries in the article. I definitely recommend adding it to your plant-based diet, taking the warnings in consideration. The image in the article is taken from my backyard. Please engage in some further reading.

  3. Noni fruit sound like the new super-food. Only it is not new, but maybe will be newly discovered by many through your blog.

Very fascinating the list of all the amazing healing properties this fruit has. Especially that is high in potassium. I eat bananas for my daily potassium intake, but now I might have an alternative in Noni fruit.

Is it easy to grow it? Does it grow relatively fast?

Thank you for sharing this valuable information with the world!

  4. Yes the Noni craze evaporated, but it is still a healthy food, it is easy to grow, I have a tree full of fruit at the moment in my backyard.Great for skin care also. Thanks for visiting.

  5. I saw ads for noni juice several years ago and didn’t know what it was. I’m surprised to see that it has so many health benefits, so maybe I’ll try it. It’s especially interesting that this juice has been used for 2000 years. Very often, the natural cures that our ancestors knew about years ago are the best.

  6. Oh, I haven’t heard of the Noni fruit before. But, thanks to you I now know about it 🙂  I will be looking up how to get my hands on some, at least for external use.  It’s nice to know, though, that it can be consumed as well. 🙂  I’m always on the lookout to find some new natural thing and its benefits for health.  Thank you so much for sharing this 🙂

  7. I guess another superfood in the making. But like you said it’s been around for 100s of years. The western is just catching up to all these types of superfoods, the likes of which our cultures have been enjoying for centuries.

My mom has always declared the goodness about this smelly fruit. I agree the smell is off putting, but the benefits are many. So I listen to my mom, due to having had cancer I drink the juice and know it has helped a lot.

    Great article.

  8. Noni seems to be a very effective medicine for many problems, but the list of side effects make me wonder if I should take it. Although all medications have some side effects we generally only take them for a short period of time.

I like the way you have laid this out in easy to understand language.

    Derek

  9. I have seen this plant before but I didn’t know that this one Noni plant has so many benefits. Can you tell me how much to consume noni juice evryday for maximum benefits? As it has few side effects as well is their any alternative plant that has similar benefits?

  10. Hi Courtney,

It’s amazing when you learn that a common plant that was once considered a “nuisance” actually has so many health benefits. It was right in the backyard the whole time! I loved reading this. I probably won’t find this growing in the wild in Canada, but I know I’ve seen noni juice on the shelves at the local supermarket. I just had no idea that it could be so beneficial for so many ailments. I’ll need to discuss this with my doctor and see if it could be used to improve my cognitive function. I believe I have however solved your riddle (feel free to delete the answer if you don’t want to spoil it for others):

“Protect the liver with juicy noni!”

Besides the noni juice I’ve seen, can you recommend the best noni products that might be ordered online from the USA/Canada? I will do some of my own research as well of course, but thought you might be familiar since you seem to know a lot about the subject. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

    Rachael

  11. Thanks for the visit, there is a tree in my backyard and I was thrilled when an American visiter recognised the tree from photos on the packaging of a product he was using for years; and to think I knew this plant from the time I was 5 years old and only learnt of its  health value about 5 years ago.

  12. Thank you, a visit to Anguilla will solve all your wishes, let me know when you are ready.Happy planning. LOL,or maybe not.

    Best wishes.

  13. You must be thankful for such an enlightened mom; Enjoy.Don’t forget the youthful look you can maintain by it’s external use. Thanks for visiting.

  14. Thanks for the visit, don’t be  afraid, just read the warnings carefully. Are you diabetic?

  15. Thanks for visiting; I hope your Doctor had some training in natural medicine.
