Lemon versus Lime

During my early childhood lemon and limes were always available; trees were planted close to the back of the kitchen to take advantage of the gray water, but no one ever talked about the health benefits.

There are small differences between a lime and a lemon; namely in the color and size, and possibly the levels of vitamin C; the nutritional value is almost the same; they are both rich in vitamin C and low in calories; limes are usually more acidic and taste a little sweeter than lemons, with lemons having a superior nutritional value.

History

Both fruits are rich in vitamin C; the peel is rich in limonene phytochemicals which can help protect against cancer. Lemons are reported to have originated in the Indian subcontinent and limes in Southest Asia. During the eighteenth century limes were thought to prevent scurvy by the British sailors. It was later discovered that scurvy was caused by vitamin C deficiency.

The two fruits are grown in warm climates, the main producers are Caribbean, Mexico, Southeast Asia, the Mediterranean region of north Africa, Florida, California. Arizona, Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, South Africa and Australia.

There are some reports that suggest that lemon juice can cure cancer; it is regarded as a myth by many medical experts; but it is difficult to substantiate the truth in an age where Big Money rules the day and conflicts of interest exist everywhere.

However, research has indicated that there is some truth that lemons and other citrus fruits contain compounds that maybe beneficial in preventing or combating some types of cancer; but as is always the case, if the potential of big money is not promised, scientific research might be low on the radar, particularly when the natural ingredients are readily available. Dosages are always the big question.

The facts are, there has been some scientific research but there are indications that citrus fruits, including lemons can be a factor in preventing or treating certain kinds of cancer; but it is impossible to find any substantiated proof. Prostate cancer was identified in some of the studies,.

Exercise Daily and Eat Healthy Foods.

Adopt a plant-based diet.

Age gracefully by keeping your mind active and possibly slow down the process or avoid Dementia or Alzheimer’s.

I heard part of a BBC broadcast on aging gracefully in the wee hours of the night between sleep and wake; The broadcast justified my reason for adding these additional 100 brain exercises.

Creating the brain exercise is my way of keeping my brain active, The study on the Nuns showed that the ones whose brains were kept active, lived longer without suffering from Dementia or Alzheimer’s.

For this exercise I am posting the health tip and you must create the equation as clue No 1 and replace the letters in the health tip with the appropriate numbers from the alphabet table.

If you are over the age of fifty of have aging parents or relatives, I beg you the share these exercises with them; believe me I experienced Dementia with my Mom before she died at the age of 86; I started creating these exercises too late the have shared them with her.

This new series of exercise are strictly about cognitive function.

Remember always have your copy of the alphabet sheet showing the alphabet and the corresponding numbers.

The sheet should contain A the Z and 1 the 26, and look something like the example below. Make a print copy and keep it handy for all similar exercises. We will call it the Alphabet Table.
