POVERTY & OBESITY.

Unfortunately and ironically Obesity is closely linked to poverty, but the truth is one can eat healthy on the same budget as that of a poor person eating junk foods and carbohydrate packed foods. Health education is the key.

When one wishes to lose weight they should choose foods that are high in fiber, low in calories and high in protein. They can be very filling and can cause you to lose appetite and reduce hunger.

Burn calories, reduce the urge to eat, eat, exercise regularly and they are foods filling and reduces the urge to binge.

I am a firm believer in a plant-based diet and will not include lean meat or chicken breast in my list although they can be a high source of protein, I would recommend alternative sources.

WEIGHT LOSS FOODS.

Apple cider vinegar

Avocado

Whole Eggs: (eggs despite past information, eggs are a great source of high quality protein, especially in the yolk.)

Leafy greens

Salmon.

Boiled Potatoes (despite past pronouncements, potatoes are healthy and nutritious)

Leafy Greens

Calciferous vegetables. ( Source of fiber, water and many vitamins and minerals.)

Fish (Examples Tuna and Salmon; rich in omega 3 fatty acids.)

Beans and Legumes.-(kidney beans, black beans, chick peas, lentils)

Soups. (Can be more filing than solid meals and have a greater impact on fullness and the rate of stomach emptying

Cottage cheese

Nuts

Whole Grains

Chili Pepper

Fruit

Grapefruit

Chia seeds

Coconut oil

Full fat yogurt. (An alternative source of protein and filler as a snack.)

Oatmeal. (A popular breakfast choice; low in calories and high in fiber.)

Berries

Vegetables. ( Source of fiber, water many vitamins and minerals.)

Broccoli

Kale

Apples

Sweet Potatoes

Celery

Chick Peas

SPICES AND HERBS

If you are a lover of spicy foods, you will be please to know that you can include them in your weight loss diets.

Fenugreek: (This is one spice that I have never heard of, but its leaves and seeds are used as ingredients in dishes from South and Central Asia; you must look for it next time you visit commercial spice racks.

Other names-(Alhova, Bird’s foot, Bockshornkiee, Boshshornsame, Chandrica, Fenogrecko, Fenugrec, -see others in www.rxlist.com)

Fenugreek seeds are reported to smell and taste like maple syrup; and are eaten in India as a vegetable.

Gymnema Sylvtre

This is another herb that I have never heard of; it is a woody vine that grows in tropical areas of India, Africa and Australia. It has been used for medicinal purposes in Ayurvedic medicine. Other names include gymnema, Australian cow plant and periploca of the woods. It is also referred to as the sugar destroyer.(Wikipedia)

Sometime it pays to choose foods that are filling without having to consume large portions, and still offer healthy nutrients.the following list offers some choices.

Cottage cheese

Oatmeal. ( A popular breakfast choice; low in calories and high in fiber.)

Eggs

Fish

Soups

Nuts

Legumes

Coconut Oil. (There is still much debate about coconut oil in the face of evidence that the fatty acids from coconut oil are different and beneficial to your health.)

Quinoa

Popcorn (This is a surprise and my wife’s favorite snack and whole grain food; not my personal choice as a snack)

Vegetables

Greek Yogurt
